Our Vision statement for Mozambique
God’s call
Our call is to serve in Mozambique together with our prayer and financial partners, in order to fulfill the Great Commission (Mathew 28: 19-20 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." …
Our Goal
Our goal is to bring young people to the feet of Christ in a loving and caring way. We will disciple and train the indigenous leaders to spread the good news and reproduce other leaders.
We are already at Maxixe and Inhambane, Mozambique, among the Matshwas, Gitongas, Hindus and Muslims, reaching other areas and people groups in Mozambique. Now we are praying to reach kids in Beira and we will not stop until we have proclaimed the gospel to all the surrounding countries, specially the Portuguese speaking countries in Africa. (Cape Verde, Angola)
Now is the right time
We have been missionaries in Mozambique for 2 years. We have spent most of our time with the Tonga’s and have seen the need and urgency for the gospel message first hand. There are hundreds of people who die without Christ on a daily basis. 1 of 6 die of HIV, 1 out of 5 will die before the age of five and the majority will die from Malaria.
Romans 13:11
…And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed…
Our Mission
We will strive to preach the gospel to every person in Mozambique. With a life expectancy of only 45 years old, our mission is to create a relevant gospel centered approach to reaching hundreds of young people for Christ.
The Tonga’s have a population of about 300,000; less than 1% is Christian.
Mozambique is 54% Muslim
Witchcraft activities are recognized and invited to official governmental activities.
Isaiah 59:9 “Therefore justice is far from us, and righteousness does not overtake us; we hope for light, but behold, darkness, for brightness, but we walk in gloom.”
Fulfilling “The Great Commission”
We arrived in Maxixe, Mozambique in April 2007. We didn’t know anybody in that village, but we trusted in God. Our desire to serve our Almighty God and the passion for the lost souls drove us into this apostolic journey. We have been serving under an interdenominational ministry and have been supported by many faithful brethren. We have been clay in the hands of an almighty God… Romans 9:21 “Or does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for common use?...”
Challenges we are facing:
- Mozambique is a poor country, considered to be one of the poorest countries of the world.
- Animist environment is a strong presence in Mozambique (African Culture practices).
- Some existing Christians are involved in Witchcraft activities, which develop a big problem – Syncretism.
- Strong Muslim influence is a big challenge to spread the gospel and teach Bible to people.
- Indirect opposition from the Witchcraft doctors is eminent in our activities in certain areas.
- Lack of moral values, give as consequence corruption in different social levels.
- Mozambique does not have any healthy activities for their youth. The kids begin to drink alcohol at an early age due to no parental or healthy influence.
- Acts3:39 says…and through Him everyone who believes is freed from all things, from which you could not be freed through the Law of Moses.
Our Strategy to reach people in Mozambique:
- Pray and organize prayer teams. … Ephesians 6:18 With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, is on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints. Establish prayer walks, this is a strategy we are doing since our arrival to Mozambique.
- This is a spiritual warfare and our weapons will not come from us… 2Corinthians 10:4 for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses.
- We are praying to equip our leaders with enough knowledge of God’s word, teaching them to depend on God thru His word and prayer. In order to fulfill this task successfully we plan to invest more time in our leaders and increase their bible knowledge.
- We also plan on being involved with the high schools as well as some of the colleges near by. The goal will be to influence students and teachers to be friends and start clubs (bible studies with fun activities) on campus. This year we are planning to do a condensed seminar on bible classes for our leaders.
- 2Timothy 2:2… And the things which thou hast heard from me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
Ministry in action
We mentor one on one and we go visit new converts and teach the new converts, how to evangelize, how to look up passages in bible and how to be a disciple/ make other disciples.
Beatriz is helping with the Local Artist Youth Association. Her knowledge of art, and teaching techniques has influenced the kids in a profound way.
Beatriz has also taught some ladies to do pastries with local products and get better opportunity to improve their live with an extra income for the family.
Personally I am participating in some local events; I’ve intentionally gone to play indoor soccer with some “important men” to begin friendly relationships.
I’ve had the opportunity to become friends with the assistant of the Imam, a local mosque, that has close to 15,000 members. Every Thursday he comes to my house and we talk about different subjects, but most importantly we have discussed the bible. We’ve had amazing discussions.
